In today’s world, every sector has become technology-driven and most companies are using the ‘online platform’ to stay in the competition. The food sector is no different; the on-demand food delivery apps are now prowling the market and are making their way up. Ordering food from your couch has become a norm and it is just a matter of time before every restaurant succumbs to selling on the food delivery platform.

Woowa Brothers, a leading South Korean food delivery startup has seen exponential growth in the industry. The company has recently secured additional investments of 320 million USD from global investors, thus making it as the “unicorn company” in this field. The company has its headquarters in Seoul, Seoul Teugbyeolsi and is presided by Bong Jin Kim.

Woowa Brother’s food delivery service, “Baedal Minjok”, was launched in 2010 and since its inception, the company has won large investments from companies such as Goldman Sachs, Hillhouse Capital, and Naver. Woowa Brothers plan to use this for global expansion and new businesses such as developing autonomous robots.

Woowa Brother’s AI-Powered Food Delivery Platform

The company is developing a food delivery robot with an aim to commercializing it within a couple of years. The robot has been named as ‘Deli’ short form of ‘delicious delivery’ is under development with a team at Korea University. Woowa Brothers vision is to develop a robot that can deliver food both in indoor and outdoor environments.

Woowa Brothers believe that the demand for food delivery has grown manifolds. However, there are a limited number of delivery people. Hence the company has been investing in autonomous driving technology and artificial intelligence to a develop delivery robot and is also looking forward to beginning its innings in Vietnam by launching the food delivery app in the first half of 2019.

Woowa Brother’s Exceptional Growth

Baedal Minjok’s monthly orders grew rapidly since its launch in 2010. The mobile app commonly known as Baemin has approximately 27 million food delivery orders per month as compared to 20 million in July 2018. The app boasts of 8 million monthly active users. Woowa’s food delivery sales have increased more than double in the last three years.

Besides developing a delivery robot, the company is also focusing on self-driving technology and building an online system to assist the restaurant owners to manage customers and revenue.
